Your role

Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) invites applications for Research. Associate position in Plant Biotechnology for a research project funded by GSBTM, Department of Science and Technology, Government of Gujarat.

Job description:

• The candidate will be required to develop groundnut plants with improved oil quality using a CRISPR-Cas9 genome activation approach.
• He/she will be responsible for designing and generating CRISPR-based plant transformation constructs/gene cassettes. He/she will also work on plant tissue culture, transformation and characterisation of putative transgenic plants.
• The candidate will utilise the biolistic method of gene transfer in plants. He/she will have an opportunity to collaborate/interact with plant scientists of different domains at the National and International levels.
• The candidate should be highly motivated, independent and a continuous learner.
• The candidate will also be expected to assist the Principal Investigator in other projects, writing reports/grants for the funding agencies and guiding graduate and undergraduate students.

Duration: 

• The initial appointment is for 1 year, extendable up to 2 more years based on performance.

Salary & benefits

• Payment is up to 43,000 INR per month + Rs.7,200 HRA (HRA will not be provided if accommodation on campus is availed) (Source: IITM).

About you

Qualification:

• PhD in Plant Biology, Plant Biotechnology, Plant Developmental Biology, Plant
• Molecular biology, Plant genetics. Candidates with experience in transgenic technology which includes gene cloning, vector construction, genome editing, biolistic delivery and plant
• The transformation will be given preference.
