The Amdocs Story

Amdocs was established in Israel in 1982 as a subsidiary of Golden Pages, an Israeli phone directory firm. Boaz Dotan was the first CEO of Amdocs. In 1985, Aurec Information & Directory Systems, the previous name for Amdocs, sold 50% of its shares to Southwestern Bell Corporation. That prompted a change of name to Amdocs. Aurec Group sold its remaining shares within Amdocs for almost a billion dollars within a couple of years.

From 1990-to 1995, Amdocs diversified into the wired telephone and the mobile phone market. They continued expanding their service offerings and products as time went on. In 1998, Amdocs was listed as a public limited liability company on the New York Stock Exchange. In 2014, it moved to the NASDAQ Global Select Market.

From that moment, Amdocs has been on an acquisition spree, establishing itself as a global brand and securing its footprint in different countries across the world. Last month, it announced the acquisition of MYCOM OSI for 188 million USD.

Social Contributions

Amdocs hopes to bridge the digital divide and enable the underprivileged communities to have access to ICT and the internet via digital skills, devices, and internet connections. They launched a Food waste application that has supplied food to more than 400,000 people. Amdocs volunteers developed an independent mobile application that facilitates food donations from restaurants, local companies, and other relevant sources to the waiting hands of needy communities.

The food donation process begins with sources who have an abundant supply of food, almost getting wasted. Amdocs track local families and people who register for food banks and food donations to come up with a list of eligible people, the type of food they receive, and how often they get food to eat. Their CSR projects help them get food that would have been wasted on people who need them.

Controversies

In 2015, Advanced Micro Devices was accused of false advertising information regarding the core count of its FX series. The accusation emphasized that the cores of the FX series were very similar to that of the FPU. That was why AMD falsely advertised high core counts. As a result, AMD was mandated to pay over $12 million to residents of California who purchased a high-end FX chipset.
